About Me
Elli Jeffries is a watercolorist and multi-media artist who explores mythical creatures, nature, and narratives through her illustrations. Elli is currently a Freshman at Indiana University Bloomington as she pursues a BFA in studio art with a minor in biology. Her artistic journey began in childhood when she found inspiration in her love of stories, dragons, and animals. Elli primarily works with watercolor and bright color palettes, but she often takes a multimedia approach to each work.
Recently, Elli has been venturing through her work to answer the question: what will happen to nature in the wake of a human-caused catastrophe? In an era where mankind and nature are starkly disconnected, she sought to find hope in catastrophic change. She explored the consequences of certain types of disasters, the relationship between humans and nature, and nature’s resilience. Focusing on animals, she has placed species in various situations that might spur on some kind of transformation. What nature might we inadvertently lose in pursuit of progress? Where might species thrive without us? Who’s demise are we really creating, the planet’s, or our own? This exploration aligns with Elli’s strong passion for biodiversity conservation. She aims to create art that raises awareness and contributes to better conservation efforts.
Elli’s art frequently features entirely imaginary scenes and creatures, capturing moments of a larger narrative. It’s all driven by a curiosity for the enchanting aspects of life, from the smallest tadpole to the largest dreams.
